Xaveer Leijtens (1962) studied physics at the University of Amsterdam. He received his master degree with honors in 1988 and his Ph.D. degree in 1993 on research in the field of high energy physics.
In 1993 he joined the Photonic Integrated Circuits group at the Delft University of Technology. Since 2000 he is with the Opto-Electronic Devices group of the COBRA research center at the Eindhoven University of Technology. Xaveer's current interests focus on generic integration technology and includes photonic integrated circuits containing multi-wavelength sources and detectors.
From 2005 to 2008 he was chairman of the IEEE Photonics Society Benelux chapter (photonics-benelux.org). He is leading the design effort within the Joint European platform for InP-based Photonic Integration of Components and Circuits (JePPIX.eu). Since 2007 he is associate editor for IEEE Photonics Technology Letters. Dr. Leijtens (co-)authored over 150 papers and conference contributions and 3 book chapters.

Douwe Geuzebroek, PhD is Marketing & Sales Manager at LioniX International. LioniX International provides customized microsystem solutions, in particular integrated photonics-based. Douwe has over 15 years of experience in integrated photonics and its applications, ranching from R&D to product development stages. He has a strong interest in matching the technical aspect of a technology to the needs of the market.
Douwe has a background in Electrical Engineering in which he finished his PhD at University of Twente at the Integrated Optical MicroSystem (IOMS) group on a topic of applying integrated optical microring resonators in telecommunication networks. In 2005 he joined LioniX BV as a design engineer and project leader focusing on microring resonators and other integrated optical telecommunication devices and was actively involved in the start-up of XiO Photonics in 2008.
As VP Marketing and Sales at XiO Photonics he supported the development of the waveguide technology for visible light applications and the introduction of this technology in several products. He participated in several research projects both national and European.
Currently as Marketing & Sales Manager at LioniX International he is involved in the acquisition of new commercial and research projects for photonic integrated modules in life Science, metrology and telecommunication applications.

Biography : Philippe Emplit received his Dr.Sc. degree in applied physics from the Université libre de Bruxelles (ULB), Belgium in 1992. At the same time, he got a permanent research position in the Photonics unit of OPERA department at Ecole polytechnique de Bruxelles, the engineering school of ULB. He joined the academic staff of the university in 1994. His principal current research interests are nonlinear guided wave photonics, ultrafast phenomena, and their applications to optical communications. More recently, he started research activities on higher education management and university pedagogy. He is the author of one book chapter and more than 75 international scientific publications in refereed journals. During the last 10 years, Philippe Emplit coordinated, on the one hand, the photonics@be Belgian network of excellence and, on the other hand, he occupied several positions in the administration of teaching and learning at ULB, including a 5-year Vice-rector mandate. He presently is the head of the university general Department in charge of the support to academic activities (DSAA).
